ANTIQUE SILK IRON China 1900s Collectible Art Industrial History Brass Enamel Cloisonné

ImageImageANTIQUE SILK IRON China 1900s Collectible Art Industrial History Brass Enamel Cloisonné

Antique brass iron used for ironing silk in ancient China.  They would place burning coals into the dish and iron delicate silk with it. The handle and the bottom of the iron are nicely decorated with cloisonné enamel, but it looks like at some point hot coals melted it at two sports.

Somehow, it shows that the iron was actually used for ironing.  It makes it an item to illustrate the history of Chinese Industry and technology.  Sometimes they come in pairs, because the Chinese women used two irons simultaneously, one in each hand.

I have a matching iron to this one and will auction it soon.

This intriguing piece is great for history aficionados, art history students, and for the Chinese food restaurants lobby displays of interesting curiosities. That is unless you need it for the antique silk ironing.

Marked China with all capital letters.

Condition: good antique condition. Some heat damage to enamel.
